Ask us anything.....

My steering is making a noise, has loose play or has become hard. What should i do?

This is caused by worn parts or incorrect fitment. A detailed inspection is required by a certified mechanic specialising in Power Steering for a possible complete recondition or unit replacement.

What is OEM?

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a manufacturer that produces parts directly for the car manufacturer. Ie, a factory that makes parts directly for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota ect. These factories sell the same components to the after-market suppliers, like Uni Group. So even through the packaging doesn't have the logo, its still made by the same factory that make the original parts.

Can I buy the necessary components needed to do the repair directly from Uni Group?

Yes you can. You can bring us the sample components that need to be replaced for accurate matching or Whatsapp exact sizes and photos for accurate supply. But please note Uni Group does not take responsibility for failed repairs if not done by a certified power steering mechanic.

What if the main shaft is rusted inside the steering rack?

The shaft needs to be chromed and brought back to original size. this is also required in the pinion shaft as well as the sector shaft on a steering box. This is very important when reconditioning a power steering unit.

Where can I get my shaft chromed?

With us of course! Send your shafts to us and we get the chroming done by our long standing, trusted engineering partners in Cape Town.

Can Uni Group do the repairs to my power steering unit?

No, unfortunately we don't do repairs. But you can consult us on the issues your power steering unit is experiencing, and we can assist with advice or recommend a trusted workshop.

If my hydraulic steering rack needs to be reconditioned, what should be done? ?

Firstly, make sure you are working with a qualified mechanic that specialises in power steering. Secondly, make sure the mechanic is replacing both main shaft seals, both pinion seals, as well as all other O-rings and Teflon's that have wear. We suggest asking the mechanic for the old seals that have been removed as proof. Thirdly, make sure the mechanic has chromed the shaft.
